Height Safety – WorkCover

WorkCover visited 350 construction sites in late 2019 focusing on the hazards/risks of working at heights, only 25% were compliant.

From September 2020 to February 2021 WorkSafe inspectors will be again conducting inspections on constructions sites.

Falls are a leading cause of fatalities within the construction industry. Over the past 10 years, 19 Victorian construction workers have lost their lives due to falls from heights.

If the risk of falls cannot be fully eliminated, employers must reduce any remaining risk by implementing the below controls in the following order:

      1. passive fall prevention device such as guard railing or scaffolds
      2. work positioning systems such as a rope access system or travel restraints
      3. fall arrest systems such as catch platforms, safety nets or safety harnesses
      4. fixed or portable ladders or administrative controls
