Course Description
This course applies to persons who are required to perform gas testing prior to entering or conducting works in a hazardous area or confined space.
This course is designed to teach participants scenarios of when gas testing may be required, how to determine what types of gases may be present, how to conduct gas testing and how to maintain the devices.

Course Content
- Determine the type of gas/atmosphere to be tested
- Apply hazard identification and risk assessment
- Use gas testing equipment and interpret and report the readings
- Monitor the atmosphere on an ongoing basis
- Clean and maintain testing equipment
Entry Requirements
The ability to;
- Ability to read and interpret a meter and then communicate the conclusions
- Writing is required to the level of completing required workplace reports/forms
- Numeracy read the instrument and interpret the results as being safe/not safe and so determine the required actions

Participant Responsibilities
Participants are required to be on time for all courses and bring a form of identification such as Australian Drivers Licence or Medicare Card for verification of details listed on the course enrolment form.

Delivery
Face to Face training will be conducted over a period of 4 hours including both theory and practical components. Training can be conducted both on or offsite site provided a training room and industrial environment (or simulated environment) is available for use.
PARCOR caters for training onsite throughout Victoria including areas such as Melbourne, Geelong, Portland, Warrnambool, Colac, Bendigo, Ballarat, Horsham, Sale, Bairnsdale, Echuca, Mildura, Wangaratta, Dandenong, Frankston and Traralgon.
Group Size
To ensure quality training and a safe learning environment, the maximum allowable group size is 12 participants.
What Information Will PARCOR Require?
Due to the assessment requirements of the unit of competency, PARCOR will need to be provided with the following information prior to training commencement;
- Types of Gas Testing equipment used on site
- Gas Testing Procedures
- JSEA or SWMS and Work Permits
- List of the atmospheric conditions workers may be exposed to at the workplace
What Will Your Organisation Receive?
- Statement of Attainment issued to individual participants who successfully complete the requirements of the unit of competency and have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)
- Nationally Recognised Training Summary for your Health and Safety Office compliance file
How Often Should Reassessment be Conducted?
Industry regards reassessment on a two to three year cycle as good practice.

Assessment
Assessment of knowledge will be conducted by use of a workbook and verbal questioning. Participants will also be required to demonstrate competence through a range of practical activities.
