Course Description

First Aid emergencies can occur at any time and in any setting such as your home, community settings or the workplace.

This course aims provide you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to help a your friend, your family member, a colleague or even a complete stranger during a first aid emergency until such time as further help arrives.

Units of Competency

  • HLTAID009 Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • HLTAID010 Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid

A Statement of Attainment and wallet card issued to individual participants who successfully complete the requirements of the unit of competency and have a valid Unique Student Identifier (USI)

Frequently Asked Questions

The Code of Practice and Compliance Codes for First Aid in the Workplace recommend that Provide First Aid training be refreshed every 3 years and the CPR component be refreshed annually.

Yes, in most cases PARCOR can conduct Provide First Aid training at your workplace. You will need;

  • A suitable training room
  • Access to an area where practical skills demonstrations can occur

If we are providing training at your workplace participants will be required to bring any of their normal protective clothing with them. They will also require photo identification to verify their enrolment details.

If you are attending a public course please ensure to wear long pants and preferably boots.

Our public Provide First Aid courses typically kick off at 08:00 am unless otherwise advertised. It’s advised to arrive 15mins early to allow time to sort out any enrolment issues and get yourself setup for the day.

  • There is plenty of free parking available
  • Tea and coffee facilities available
  • Lunch is provided (please advise of any special dietary requirements)

There is a better course designed for teachers and educators that goes further into depth on asthma and anaphylaxis whilst also focusing on the type of emergencies more relevant to the education setting. You can find some more information here.

Entry Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to use literacy and numeracy skills as required to read, interpret and apply guidelines and protocols (e.g. read and follow ARC guidelines)
  • Ability to use literacy and numeracy skills to adequately interpret documentation available in line with State/Territory regulations, legislation and policies
  • Ability to perform manual handling tasks and strenuous activities such as chest compressions at ground level

It is important to note that the HLTAID units of competency do require a level of physical ability to meet the evidence requirements for assessment. These standards relate to the level of performance required to provide resuscitation and respond to an emergency situation where there may be risk to life.

Due to the potential risk to health and safety where a nominated first aider, or worker with duty of care, does not have the ability to perform resuscitation and/or first aid to the performance standard, it is not appropriate to issue a statement of attainment to participants who are physically unable to meet the assessment requirements.

Additional entry requirements for Blended Learning

  • Computer skills such as web navigation and basic typing
  • Access to a computer or tablet with an internet connection

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this unit.

Participant Responsibilities

Participants shall be required to complete an online enrolment process including providing a valid USI. Participants must provide photo ID to verify their identity. Participants shall be required to attend the entire session and complete all assessment activities.

Delivery Method and Duration

Face to Face

Face to Face training will be conducted over a period of 8 hours including both theory and practical components. Training can be conducted both on or offsite provided a training room and area for practical skills demonstrations are available for use.

PARCOR caters for training onsite throughout Victoria including areas such as Melbourne, Geelong, Portland, Warrnambool, Colac, Bendigo, Ballarat, Horsham, Sale, Bairnsdale, Echuca, Mildura, Wangaratta, Dandenong, Frankston and Traralgon.

To ensure a quality and safe learning environment our Provide First Aid courses are capped at 12 participants.

What Information Will PARCOR Require?

Due to the assessment requirements of the unit of competency, PARCOR will need to be provided with the following information prior to training commencement;

  • Types of First Aid equipment onsite
  • First Aid Report Forms
  • First Aid procedures

How Often Should Reassessment be Conducted?

States using the Model WHS legislation and Code of Practice – First Aid in the Workplace require that refresher training in CPR should be undertaken annually and first aid qualifications should be renewed every three years.

The Australian Resuscitation Council recommend that CPR training be undertaken annually.

Assessment

Assessment of knowledge will be conducted by use of a workbook and verbal questioning. Participants will also be required to demonstrate competence through a range of practical activities.
